Douglas A. Anderson, MBA


Doug, an author of business management and technical publications has 37 years of results oriented, successful experience as a mid to top level executive and management consultant on five continents.  His experiences range from developing, assisting and managing start-up, micro, SME’s and major enterprises with an emphasis on agribusiness.

He is presently the MENA Regional Representative for ACDI VOCA, a full-service international economic development firm dedicated to improving lives and livelihoods worldwide which works in 145 countries. He is also Executive Director of ASI, an affiliate organization to ACDI VOCA that specializes in consulting worldwide to the public and private sector.  Previously, he was Vice Chairman and Chief Operations Officer for National Food Company, where he reformulated and repositioned products in 6 categories for 7 global distribution channels under a new trademarked brand and with improved packaging and labeling.  He was successful in positioning the first Egyptian food processor brand on a major retail shelf in the USA.  Prior to NFC, he spent six years in Egypt on a USAID funded project to assist food processors to increase exports, successfully launching over 200 new products and growing exports from a baseline of $62 million to over $1 billion to date.

From 1977 to 1998 Doug managed his own contracting and management consulting firm, Anderson Associates International (AAI) in both Portland, OR and Bakersfield, CA with representative offices in Australia, Mexico City, Cyprus and Prague.  His private sector project design and product development work for AAI took him to virtually every region of the world, including many years in the Middle East.

Doug is an expert in business fundamentals.  He has facilitated numerous industry workshops and business training seminars throughout the developing world.  He enjoys a worldwide reputation for excellence in executive management, value chain assessment and strengthening, product development, business turnarounds, strategic planning, business diagnostics, and international marketing. He has assumed leadership roles on all levels, including president of a four-state chapter and national director of a 20,000-member trade association.  He was instrumental in passing a consumers’ advocacy law in Oregon and chaired the state committee for public hearings to establish the final rules for administrative law. Governor Robert Straub appointed him Commissioner to the Oregon State Department of Commerce Advisory Board.  

Doug has a rare combination of business acumen and decades of technical expertise in the agribusiness arena, including commercial pesticide consulting; agricultural irrigation; fruit and vegetables, including production, crop protection, post harvest technology, processing and international marketing. Further, he has consulted in the building, hospitality, retailing and manufacturing sectors. 

Doug lives in Cairo with his wife Karla. He has 2 daughters.

Sayedul Kawnine

Kawnine is a  Senior Management Consultant  and Institutional Development Expert, Trainer and Researcher  with over 30 years of working experience in cross cultural environment in the fields of Project Management, Institutional Development, Capacity Building, Training and Development.

Apart from Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM), a National Management Development Centre, he has worked  in various capacities with projects funded by International Agencies like FAO, UNDP, ILO, ADB, USAID, DANIDA, PATAP Program of AARRO, World Bank, EEC, Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC), National and International NGOs like Sight Savers International, CONCERN Bangladesh, CARE International, WORLD VISION etc.

He has rendered long-term consultancy services in restructuring, human resources development, preparation of job descriptions, design curricula and development of related manuals and their implementations with Public Sector Organizations like BWDB, WARPO, CERP, DEPHE etc. in Bangladesh and a number of other  National/International NGOs.
