WINNNG AT job hunting,

By MEL Schnapper, Ph.D.

You may not be looking for a job, but the skills Mel Schnapper can teach you could multiply the sales and marketing successes of your current business.

Schnapper is blunt, methodical, organized. Conducting test interviews with "live" job seekers at his elbow, he presents a strategy for the winning job hunter: Focus tightly on employer benefits. The objective of an interview is to paint vivid pictures and projections for the employers of what they're going to get from you once they hire you.

Networking? Arrive at every meeting early, look at the name tags, and decide whom to target. During cocktails, approach the three or four oldest faces you see - they're likely the most experienced people there. If you're unemployed and people ask what company you're with, say, "No one, and I'm looking." Stay with these contacts through the meal.

Schnapper combines action strategies with self-analysis. He makes you dig deep into your career, come up with 30 to 40 concrete accomplishments, and then choose from them the critical path your life must take. "'What matters most is not the job hunt per se. An aura of confidence, coupled with "career clarity," is what drives people to success.

So go ahead. Ignore this tape - if you dare.
